Kolkata forum of New Cinema to screen 2 Iranian films

TEHRAN, Mar. 14 (MNA) – Two Iranian films including ‘Bench Cinema’ by Mohammad Rahmanian will be screened at the 30th International Forum of New Cinema in Kolkata (AKA Calcutta), India.

‘Bench Cinema’ is Mohammad Rahmanian’s brilliant tribute to the classic cinema. The protagonist, Nasi (Ali Omrani), spends months after release from prison, watching as many films as he can get his hands on and memorizes all the lines. He then travels around to perform the films as a one man show on a bench. Gradually he forms a theatre group called Cinema Bench with a violist (Ashkan Khatibi), a nurse and ex-actress (Mahtab Nasirpour) and a man good at creating stage props (Houman Barghnavar).

Another film to be screened in the Indian festival is ‘A House on 41st Street’ directed by Hamidreza Ghrobani, which tells the story of a middle-class family in Tehran that falls apart when one brother kills another brother over a bounced check.

The 30th edition of Cine Central’s landmark program ‘International Forum Of New Cinema’ will be held from 27th March to 2nd April, 2017 at Swami Vivekananda Auditorium in Kolkata, India.

Cine Central, Kolkata, formed in November 1965, is the largest Film Society in India.
